What the app reads, what it sends, and what it never touches
- What never leaves your phone
Your personal messages never leave your phone.
Outside a test, the app ignores your messages completely. It does not open your inbox or read older messages.

Only the test message, and only while a test is running for you.
- Phone data we collect
Network, phone and app details, so tests go only to phones that can receive them.
Why: to send tests only to phones that can receive them, to tell whether a missed test was caused by the phone (no signal, SIM removed, battery saver), to help you fix problems, and to prevent fraud.

Crash reports never contain your messages or your phone number.
If the app runs into an error, technical details of that error (where in the app it happened), the phone model, Android version and app version are sent to Google Firebase so we can fix the bug.

Before you apply
The questions people ask most.
Do I need to reply to test messages?
No. Keep the app installed, signed in and allowed to run in the background. You don’t need to reply to test messages or act on them.
Why does the app need SMS permission?
Confirming that test messages arrive is the whole job of the app, and Android only lets an app see incoming SMS with this permission.
Android’s dialog says “send and view SMS messages” because that is the name of the whole SMS group. EarnSMS does not have the permission to send SMS.
How do payouts work?
Payouts are made through Upwork. Once your balance reaches the payout minimum (currently $20; the Home screen of the app always shows the current minimum), you can ask for a payout. You need your own Upwork account to receive it, and Upwork may charge its own fees, which are deducted by Upwork and not by us.
Why does Play Protect warn about the app?
EarnSMS is installed from our download page, outside the Play Store. Google Play Protect shows a warning for apps that read SMS and are installed from outside the Play Store. The warning does not mean the app is harmful. You can check the signing certificate on the download page.
Can I stop, or delete my account?
Yes. You can stop at any time by logging out or uninstalling the app; collection stops at once. You can ask us to delete your account and data at any time in our support chat on Telegram.
